Love relationships are one of the most emotionally challenging relationships we can enter into. The the love-marriage relationship takes the challenge to a whole other level.

Marriage relationships take on the tasks of commitment, obligation and expectation; all of which are in addition to the emotional aspects of the relationship itself. It’s no wonder that less than fifty percent of marriages actually fulfill their vows, “til death do we part”.

Commitment is not a real “hot button” issue nowadays. Today’s American society is more into being independent, adventurous and bold. “Try something new,” is our mantra. “If it’s broke, get a new one,” is our other mantra.

The core concept of the love-marriage relationship represents stability, commitment and continuity -all of which seem to run counter to the values being supported in this 21st century. In order to make a marriage work in today’s society, couples must be willing and able to lay just about everything on the line to make the love-marriage relationship a top priority in their lives.

For something to be a top priority in our lives, it has to be something that we know inside and out -like a job, or a child’s moods, or a recipe. To know something(or someone) is to be able to predict, to redirect, or even recreate it, at will.

The more a couple knows about how they, as a unit, work together -emotionally, physically, financially- the better chance they have of making the love-marriage relationship last.
